Roblox creator activity added ₹123.9 crore to India's GDP between 2020 and 2025

That ₹123.9 crore is a six-year cumulative total rather than a single year's contribution [2]. The report's annual exhibit puts 2025 at ₹31.3 crore, against ₹76.3 crore in 2024 [3]. Access Partnership prepared the study for Roblox [7].

More than 250 creators in India qualified for payouts from Roblox in 2025 [2]. The number of eligible creators grew at an annual rate of 96 per cent between 2020 and 2025 [2]. Total payouts to eligible creators grew at an annual rate of 72 per cent over the same period [2]. Among Indian creators who publish on more than one platform, Roblox accounts for 61 per cent of their total creation revenue [2].

The money comes mostly from abroad: on average, 55 per cent of Indian creators' total revenue is generated from international users [10]. 52 per cent of the daily active users on games made by Indian creators are outside India [10]. The leading export markets are the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan [2]. 92 per cent of surveyed creators said Roblox had helped their games reach users worldwide [8]. The survey covered 204 creators and 207 users in India and was run between May and June 2026 [8].

The report profiles Small World Games, a Bangalore studio founded by Zankhit Chawda, which it says employs around 20 people, has remained fully self-funded, and has titles including Death Ball at more than 1.6 billion visits, with around half its players in the United States [12]. Another creator quoted in the report, Arjun Goel of Meta Fashion, says: "If Roblox didn't exist, I wouldn't be doing any of this. What I'm proudest of is the work we've created for 3D artists in India, paying them above the market rate and giving them steady work, because the platform rewards good design so quickly." [11]

The annual figures

Exhibit 5 breaks the ₹123.9 crore into annual contributions: ₹1.8 crore in 2020, ₹1.9 crore in 2021, ₹5.3 crore in 2022, ₹7.4 crore in 2023, ₹76.3 crore in 2024 and ₹31.3 crore in 2025 [3]. On the Desk's arithmetic from the last two of those figures, the 2025 contribution is about 59 per cent below 2024's [3].

Exhibit 6 gives the jobs supported each year: 30 in 2020, 40 in 2021, 100 in 2022, 130 in 2023, 1,290 in 2024 and 510 in 2025 [3]. On the same arithmetic, 2025 is about 60 per cent below 2024 [3].

Exhibit 5 carries a compound annual growth rate of 77 per cent measured from 2020 [3]. Exhibit 6 carries one of 72 per cent on the same basis [3]. The report's narrative sections present the series only as those growth rates, and nowhere discuss the movement from one year to the next [9].

What a job means here

The report defines jobs as paid employment across the economy expressed in full-time equivalents [8]. It states that Roblox does not directly employ creators [8]. The GDP estimate starts from payment data in US dollars remitted to creators located in India from 2020 onwards, supplied by Roblox [9]. That payment data is the input to a multi-year input-output model of the Indian economy, capturing direct, indirect and induced effects [9]. The jobs figure is then derived from the value-added result using Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation labour force data [9].

Who stands behind the numbers

The notice page states that the study was prepared by Access Partnership for Roblox and that creator payment data was supplied by Roblox [7]. It states that the estimated economic impacts, conclusions and opinions expressed are exclusively those of Access Partnership [7]. It states that Roblox does not endorse any estimates made in the study [7]. Dollar figures are converted to rupees at average annual International Monetary Fund exchange rates for 2020 to 2025 [7].

For scale

Roblox reported 123 million daily active users worldwide in the second quarter of 2026 [5]. India is not broken out in the company's regional table [5]. Creators globally earned more than US$1.5 billion on the platform in 2025 [4]. That compares with US$923 million in 2024 [4]. Roblox puts the global employment effect at nearly 12,000 full-time job equivalents in 2025 across the markets studied [4].

India had more than 1,900 game development companies in 2024, employing around 66,000 professionals [6]. There were 488 million online gamers in India in 2024 [6].

What the study does not cover

The GDP figure is estimated on creator activity only [8]. The report states that the overall impact of Roblox is likely to be higher because a broad range of activities, such as advertising, are not analysed [8].
