VirtuCamera 2 Pro adds custom scripts, gamepad control and studio licensing across six DCCs

The Weird Byte finished the Pro rollout on 14 September. Pro features are included on Pro Indie, Pro Business and Pro Enterprise, while companies cannot use Standard or Pro Indie and must use Pro Business or Pro Enterprise [1][2]. Apple Business Manager does not currently support app subscriptions, while Managed Google Play does not provide tools to manage paid applications or recurring subscriptions [4].

VirtuCamera 2 lets an artist drive a host application's camera from a phone or tablet, with current plug-ins for Blender 5.2 LTS, 5.1, 5.0 and 4.5 LTS, Maya 2027 and 2026, Houdini 22, 21 and 20.5, Cinema 4D 2026, 3ds Max 2027 and 2026, and Nuke 17 and 16 [9].

The Weird Byte completed the Pro rollout on 14 September, when App Store version 2.1.0 added on-screen joysticks, Bluetooth gamepad support, slider presets, custom scripts, custom sliders, dolly zoom mode, additional camera controls and a rule-of-thirds grid overlay [7]. Several of those capabilities had been described as planned when VirtuCamera 2 launched earlier in the year [14][16].

Custom scripts allow DCC-side actions to be exposed through the mobile interface, while custom sliders can be used for additional camera and scene controls [7]. Joystick and Bluetooth gamepad support give artists alternatives to physically moving the phone or tablet for every camera operation [7].

The tiers are separated primarily by buyer eligibility rather than by the Pro feature set [2]. VirtuCamera's comparison table marks Pro features as available on Pro Indie, Pro Business and Pro Enterprise, while Standard does not include them [2]. Companies cannot use Standard or Pro Indie and must use Pro Business or Pro Enterprise [1]. Freelancers with more than USD 100,000 in gross annual revenue are treated as companies for licensing purposes [1].

Standard commercial use is available to freelancers earning less than USD 50,000 in gross annual revenue, while Pro Indie raises that threshold to less than USD 100,000 [5].

Pricing is per user. Standard is listed at €17.99 or $19.99 as a one-time purchase [3]. Pro Indie costs €9.99 or $9.99 per month, or €99 or $99 per year [3]. Pro Business is €990 or $990 per year, while Pro Enterprise is priced by agreement [3]. The US App Store independently lists the same $9.99 monthly, $99 yearly and $990 yearly in-app subscription prices [8].

That means an eligible independent artist can access the complete Pro feature set for €99 or $99 a year, while a company licenses users through Pro Business or Enterprise [1][2][3].

VirtuCamera's licensing model is per user rather than a shared studio licence. Its FAQ says one purchase or subscription cannot be shared across devices used by different employees [12]. For studios evaluating larger deployments, the vendor also flags limitations in the mobile-platform management systems themselves: Apple Business Manager does not currently support app subscriptions, with support expected in Fall 2026, while Managed Google Play does not provide tools to manage paid applications or recurring subscriptions [4].

Regional store pricing can differ from the euro and dollar reference figures. Google Play currently lists the base VirtuCamera 2 app at ₹1,900 in India [6], while The Weird Byte says its published tier prices are guidance and may vary by country [3].

The mobile requirements are iOS 16 or later on ARKit-certified devices, or Android 12 or later on ARCore-certified hardware [12]. The US App Store lists VirtuCamera 2 itself at $19.99 [8].

On Android, Google Play dates the most recent update to 6 September 2026 [11]. The iOS release carrying the completed Pro feature set is dated 14 September [7].

Some compatibility work is still continuing. Maya 2023 and 2024 are listed as "coming soon" for Pro Business customers, without a published release date [10].

For production-security reviews, The Weird Byte describes communication between the mobile app and DCC plug-in as encrypted, although its public Pro documentation does not specify the protocol, cipher or an independent security audit [17]. Google Play's current data-safety declaration says the Android application collects no user data and shares no data with third parties [11].

The company's terms also make clear that VirtuCamera is a camera-control system rather than a production storage service: it does not provide DCC scene storage, asset storage or backups [13].

The Weird Byte S.L. is based in Galapagar, Madrid, with its terms governed by Spanish law [13].

Digital Production reported on 1 May that VirtuCamera 2 had added Android alongside iOS, with capture and viewport streaming at up to 60 frames per second [15]. At that stage, 80 Level described joystick support, custom script handling and slider presets as upcoming features [14], while CGWORLD reported that the Nuke 16 and 17 plug-ins were still under development and joystick and preset controls remained planned [16].

The September Pro release brings the planned camera controls and scripting features into the app [7], while Nuke 16 and 17 are now part of The Weird Byte's supported plug-in lineup [9].
