Mahesh Babu backs Shortgun Games to develop original Indian console and PC games for global markets
AnimationXpress reports that Indian cinema superstar Mahesh Babu has joined Mumbai-based Shortgun Games as a strategic investor, partnering with co-founders Jeet Chandan and Vidhit Mehta to create original Indian intellectual properties for global PC and console audiences. The studio will develop franchise-ready interactive experiences for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and modern PCs, with Project Takedown—a high-budget, narrative-driven action-adventure game—leading the charge. The game targets North America, Europe and the UK.
Shortgun Games is taking a different approach from India's mobile-gaming-focused digital entertainment industry by focusing on high-fidelity PC and console development. Action director Vicky Arora, whose credits include Uri: The Surgical Strike and RRR, is overseeing action design, motion-capture choreography and stunt mechanics. Babu stated that "the time is right to build original characters and cinematic worlds from here that resonate across the globe." Shortgun Games aims to prove that India can engineer world-class interactive entertainment comparable to international studio standards.
