Bengaluru startup BanyanBoard launches trackerless virtual advertising for live sports

BanyanBoard, a Bengaluru-based company co-founded six years ago by twin brothers with PhDs in engineering, is deploying trackerless virtual advertising technology in live sports broadcasts, AnimationXpress reports. The system analyses incoming video feeds to determine camera movements—zoom, tilt, pan—and automatically positions virtual graphics in real time, eliminating the need for hardware trackers traditionally required for virtual advertising insertion.

Operating within 20 milliseconds, the technology suits India's 50-frames-per-second broadcast environment. BanyanBoard receives the completed broadcast feed, identifies when the main camera is active, and inserts advertisements; when the director switches cameras, the graphic is removed.

The company is already working with Cricket Australia on geo-targeted advertising across ODI, T20 and state-level matches. Co-founder Shankar Sivaramakrishnan told AnimationXpress the company is extending capabilities to racket sports, combat sports and racing formats, with plans to improve visual realism, support moving cameras and enable remote operations.
